We meet weekly on Tuesday afternoons to learn together. We take turns being the keynote speaker giving an inspirational message, then as a group we have a 20-30 minute lesson on either speech or debate. After the lesson, we work together to brainstorm, write, edit and present speeches. On debate weeks after the lesson we have practice debates, research together, or discuss details related to our cases. It is a collaborative opportunity to grow.
Junior competitors are ages 8-11 yrs old. Sixth graders who turn 12 before January 2026 are automatically considered Varsity competitors. Sixth graders who turn 12 in the spring can choose to compete with Juniors or move up to the Varsity level.
Junior competitors have six speech events:
Original Oratory
Digital Presentation
Impromptu
Belief & Values
Open Interpretation
Duo Interpretation
Juniors club meets every other week, on the speech weeks. 11 year old competitors are encouraged to participate in the debate classes to start learning the basics, if they plan to compete in debate during their varsity years.
As a local chapter of the ASDA, our local tournaments are a qualifier for the annual ASDA National Competition. We join competitors from all over the nation and enjoy getting feedback from a variety of judges. Learn more about ASDA by clicking below.
